My Personal Health Journey

My healing journey started at a young age.

My mother became ill when I was in middle school. I was the oldest in my family.  I quickly took the role as care giver while my father worked long hours to pay for medical bills. My mother lost the ability to swallow. She would choke on solid foods. Eventually the only thing she could swallow were liquids and she survived on ensure drinks. After many disappointing visits with several western medical doctors. Our prayers where final answered after a visit with a holistic doctor.  A chiropractor was the doctor who changed my mother’s life. His care had such an impact on me that I knew at the young age of 13 that I wanted to be a healer like him.  He saved my mothers life and to this day she has no problem swallowing.

The struggle with my own health started in my late twenties. I suffered for a decade with Lyme disease.  This disease robbed me of my thirties and affected my son’s birth. The disease did cross the blood brain barrier. He struggled with his health the moment he was born. We both finally received a treatment that cured the disease when he was 3 years old.

One year after finally being free of this disease I had a Traumatic Brain Injury at the playground with my son. We were playing on the playground playing hide and seek. I tripped and fell and hit my head on asphalt.  This injury affected me for three years. I lost the ability to form sentences for a couple of weeks, but I lost the ability to organize thoughts and had constant brain fog. I suffered with migraines 2-3 times a week. I couldn’t work on the days I had migraines. I could not drive longer than 20 minutes. My brain could not process the objects coming at me at such a fast rate. After three years of treatment with an AK doctor the migraines finally subsided. I still struggled with organization, but it was seventy five percent better. The brain fog only happened when I was fatigued and became stressed.

I contracted a virus in the fall of October 2021.  The stress of managing patients during a pandemic and acquiring a virus was to much for my body. I started having breathing difficulties at night when I would lay down. Not when I fell asleep just when I laid down flat. It quickly moved into suffering 24 hours a day. I had to close my practice down. I could no longer treat patients. The only thing I could do was sit in a chair and tell myself to breath. It was no longer automatic.  I had to constantly think about breathing.

After several months of suffering and a lot of visits to several doctors I still had no answers. After sitting in my car and crying after another disappointing visit. I heard the lord’s voice. He guided me back to my Traumatic Brain Injury.  After several visits with a functional neurologist (this is a chiropractor who has a diplomate in neurology) my symptoms started to slowly change and get better. Holistic medicine again changed and saved my life.

This journey was a strong reminder of why I became a holistic doctor. I am happy to say that I was able to re-open my practice in summer of 2022.
